I am obsessed with pop culture - TV, Movies, Books, Music and of course all of the celebrity gossip that goes along with it. I enjoy being the go to person for what's on TV on a particular night, what movies to see, and what books to read. Not that I'm a know it all - but I pretend to be.

Television is Overwhelming

With so many ways to watch television these days, it can be a bit overwhelming. I'm one of those people where if I hear a good review and a lot of people are talking about something - like a good TV show - than I feel like it is my duty as a consumer of pop culture to check it out. This can be a very daunting and time consuming task. You no longer have the excuse of "Oh, I don't get that channel." Or, "I'm busy at the time." You can always record a show or catch it on Hulu.

The growing list of my recorded shows on my DVR sometimes feels like more of a chore than good, fun entertainment. I have to constantly remind myself that it IS actually okay to not watch them all. My growing Netflix queue along with the growing timeframe I keep one DVD at home is also a challenge. Currently, I am watching Flight of the Conchords from my Netflix List. I've seen a few episodes here and there, but now have started the task of watching season 1. Hopefully I'll preservere.

That all being said here is my list of shows I need to get to - some of which I'm way past the curve on:
Mad Men
Dexter
Entourage
How I Met Your Mother
Grey's Anatomy - I have over a half of the last season on my DVR, taking up space
Big Love
The Tudors
The Wire
24
True Blood
Damages

The list goes on... especially with new shows coming out all of the time.

What I'm Reading Right Now

So... thanks to my good friend, Debbie, I am now reading The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan. I had heard good things, but was excited when she got it for me for my birthday.

I'll give a review when I'm completely finished (I'm about 2/3 done right now), but so far I am obsessed with it and find myself talking to people about it almost everyday. The book is kind of difficult to explain, but basically it is about where our food comes from - something we hardly ever think of or question on this level. At least I know I never have.

The way Pollan describes things like the surplus of corn in this country and what it means for food to be deemed "organic" will make you rethink how you eat and consider the politics behind it. I never thought I would put food and politics in the same sentence. I can't wait to see what more he has to say. It has definitely made me start checking food labels more closely.

My Guilty Reality Obsessions

Right now I have a few "reality" shows that I shamelessly tune into every week. Don't judge until you have given them a chance. Or judge... who cares.

Keeping Up with The Kardashians
The Hills
The Amazing Race (14)
Celebrity Apprentice
Real Housewives of NYC

Most of these shows are within days or weeks of coming to an end. What will I do then? Something outside? Yeah...

Earth

I saw Earth yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly. If you like the series, Planet Earth, than you will definitely enjoy this as this movie comes from that footage. I read that 40% of Earth is comprised of completely unseen Planet Earth footage. It makes you laugh, it makes you smile, and it makes you want to cry. What more can you ask for from a rated G movie?

And... we have more of these movies to look forward to from Disney. Under the name Disney Nature, they are scheduled to release one per year. Next one is due out on Earth Day, 2010 and is called Oceans.

What I've been up to the Past 11 Months

Since I've been absent for so long, here a couple of things I've been seeing, reading, listening to, etc:
-The Twilight Series - yeah... I resisted too, and I don't like vampires either
-Britney Spears concert - no singing, but soooo entertaining
-Most of the Oscar Nominated Films - who didn't see Slumdog? If you haven't seen Milk - do it! I'm here to recruit you.
-Trying new restaurants around the TC - Barrio anyone?
-Naturally, I've been watching a lot of TV - Lost, Real Housewives, Gossip Girl, etc. I do DVR shows that I never seem to find time for - Gray's, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters. Don't worry - I know about Izzy.
-Reading a lot of dlisted.com and laughing my ass off
-I did read Pillars of the Earth and then started to read World Without an End right away - that was a mistake. Still haven't finished it and I usually don't do that.
-Music I've been listening to lately: Fleet Foxes, Bird and the Bee, Blitzen Trapper.

That's just a snapshot. More to come!

Guess who's back?!

Ok.... so it has been about 11 months since I have had a single post. I went to a social media workshop today (http://www.kaneconsulting.biz/kane_registration.html) and I was inspired to start it up again. I've even started tweeting, even though it scares me a little bit.

I think the problem before was that I was trying to blog too much, and finding relevant content too frequently can be challenging. So, with my one year anniversary of not an entire post on the horizon, I think it's time to start again. Get excited!

So You Think You Can Dance

SYTYCD premiered tonight. Have I mentioned I'm a sucker for competition reality shows? I know... David Cook is still wearing the same clothes from last night, and Fox has moved on to the next show. Tonight were the LA auditions and the last audition they showed was the sickest audition I have ever seen! It was amazing. As Mia Michaels says, "It gave me stank face." (That's a good thing) I'm going to post it as soon as it's available. You have GOT to see this!

Lost Theory

In case you want to be even more confused about Lost, check out this Time Loop Theory site. It's a fan-generated site that explains a theory about the island - and it makes my head hurt.

A Tale of the Two Davids

David Archuleta did amazing tonight, especially if you are going by what the judges had to say. David Cook is definitely my personal front-runner - I voted for him a bunch because I really want to see him in the top 2 if not win. Seyesha performed well too I thought.

And then there was Jason.... poor Jason. He made the judges wince with his Bob Marley song, and when he moved on to Bob Dylan he forgot his words. He is clearly on a different level than the other 3 contestants, and if he isn't sent home packing I am boycotting American Idol. Just kidding. I hate when people say that.
